13.1 Organisational Structure

Organisational structure looks at how organisations work and focuses on the 3 fundamental resources of any organisation: People; Organisation and Technology. Possibly the most boring topic in the world but it's got to be done so shut up and get on with it! It's probably a good idea to look in a Business Studies textbook for the basics around about now.

13.1 Practice questions

AQA past papers
Past papers. Not as useful as the Psionica database AQA shamefully closed but...

Practice questions
Past paper practice questions for 13.1 (.rtf file - opens in Word/Writer) suitable for revision/homework etc. etc.

Past paper answers
Answers to the questions above. Password protected .doc file. Sorry but the password is only available to teachers.

Older Exam Papers
Past papers (pre 2000) not included on the official AQA site from Colchester VI Form College. These still contain some relevant questions for this topic. Look for IT04/ICT4 papers. I think this is dead.

13.1 Online Resources

Links to general online resources for 13.1. I'd recommend right clicking links/icons and "Save Target As..." for anything other than web pages (see key below)

Organisational Structures - part 1
The first part of a very good PowerPoint presentation on this topic from Kesgarve High School. Covers basic organisational structures.

What Managers Do
Not an awful lot!!! Only joking. Handout from Clive E. Morley gives a brief insight into the role of managers. Useful to know about before looking at MIS.

Organisational Structures
Handout from David Yates of KJS fame provides a good introduction to the basic concepts of organisational structures.

Organisational Structures
Short PowerPoint presentation based on chapter 36 of Heathcote A level textbook.

Organisational Structures
Set of notes from Mortimer Wilson (adapted from Yates notes) to go with the above PowerPoint presentation. Good work Mortimer person!

Interesting article from David Skyme Associates (who??) looks at IT trends and the impact this will have/ has had on organisations.

Organizational Foundation of Info Systems
Amerikan speling alurt!!! You probably need some notes to go with this online presentation but there are some colourful diagrams that teachers could probably use elsewhere.

Organisation Worksheet
Neat "fill in the blanks" worksheet covering this topic from Mr Shepherd. This is a good resource to test your knowledge at the end of the unit.

13.1 Organisational Structures
The usual high-quality summary notes and questions from North Chadderton High School. This time covering, not surprisingly, Organisational Structures.

Information Systems Diagram
Nice little diagram that maps information systems to people within an organisation. I think a student created this??? If they did - big FM respect!

Organisational Structure
Brief set of online revision notes from ictweb.org.

Organisation
Single page on organisations. I'm not entirely sure where this came from originally??? It's probably worth looking at if you've got nothing else to do.

Organisational Structures - part 2
Second part of the Kesgrave PowerPoint. Covers different types of information systems within organisations.

Revision Questions
Couple of questions from older exam papers suitable for revision blah de blah de blah. Some x-over with 13.2.

FatMax has no association (by any stretch of the imagination) with AQA and only does this spec 'cos they have a nicer logo than OCR. The only vaguely <cough> *reliable* </cough> source of AQA info is www.aqa.org.uk Pics of FatMax looking slightly slimmer than he really is are by master of illusion Adam Kirkton.
