| Last update 04 June 2009 - FatMax |
In this topic you'll need to understand about the relationship between data, information and knowledge. Also, the reasons for encoding data and the problems associated with encoding.
| Key Points/Learning Outcomes |
You should understand that:
- data consists of raw facts and figures e.g. readings from sensors, survey facts
- information is data which has been processed by the computer
- knowledge is derived from information by applying rules to it
You should understand why data is encoded and the potential problems associated with this, especially value judgements. |
